LIPBS TV – Why Can't Long Island? (October 2018)

Considered by many to be the turning point in the fight to save the Long Island Pine Barrens, the “Why Can’t Long Island’ conference brought environmentalists, developers, business leaders and government officials together to discuss solutions to the preservation of Long Island’s premier ecosystem. Not only did these Long Island leaders express their viewpoints, but they learned from neighboring regions of pine barrens ecosystems about their experiences and knowledge. Held on April 12th, 1993, the Why Can’t Long Island Conference launched a three month period of cooperation between environmentalists and developers that was unprecedented and that ended with the passage of the Pine Barrens Protection Act.
