LEAF Flower Festival NYC – York Avenue

0

This weekend in NYC the LEAF Flower Festival took place in the Meatpacking District. It was a two day long festival of flowers, meant to be NYC’s version of something like the Chelsea Flower Show in London. This is New York City’s first floral festival of its kind, and I’m so glad I made time to pop down there and visit. I was mainly motivated when I saw that Lewis Miller was doing a series of four Flower Flashes in collaboration with Scott Froschauer Art. Where Lewis Miller goes, I will go! He was far from the only floral designer to be involved, though – the LEAF Flower Festival featured displays and work from over 100 florists, using over a million flowers! This was such a great event because florists and floral designers were so badly affected by the pandemic – so this was a great opportunity for them to get their work out there and be celebrated. Perfect timing too, what with so many people getting vaccinated and things opening up/starting to feel somewhat normal again. What a difference a year makes, huh?

More Flower Flash action here if you missed it 🙂

The LEAF Flower Festival took place in Gansevoort Plaza, right in the heart of the Meatpacking District. There were 25 plinths adorned by floral designers from all over the city, along with many other displays and installations throughout the area.

In addition to the outdoor displays, a bunch of stores and restaurants in the area also had floral installations for the festival. I loved the Hermès cart designed by Renny and Reed, so pretty!

Chelsea Market was adorned with blooms by Damsel Fly Flowers and East Olivia.

Another beautiful and creative plinth, this one created by RH Guild.

This cool blooming car was done by Plant Passenger and Plant Shed.

Loved the pastels in this plinth designed by Designs by Ahn.

Hard to get a clear shot but this rainbow by East Olivia for Aerie was super fun!

The plinth on the left was by Cape Lily.

Pretty tulips from Bloom Effects.

The L.E.A.F. Flower show was a really fun experience and I love that it created such an amazing showcase for so many NYC floral designers. I’m so appreciative to all of the people who put this together because honestly, festivals like this are a big thing in Europe and it’s about time New York City had its own! For more about the founder, Moira Breslin, and the story of how it all came together check out this NYT article. The festival is set to become an annual event so if you didn’t get to visit this year there’s still more look forward to, but hope you also enjoyed this peek!
