Cannes 2026 Subscriber Exclusive: Join the Party

Cannes 2026 is finally nearing its close—and the Film Comment crew has been on the ground for the last two weeks, cutting through the noise with dispatches, interviews, Podcasts, a special Cannes Critics’ Grid, and much more. This year’s edition has been packed with highly anticipated premieres from Ryûsuke Hamaguchi, Valeska Grisebach, James Gray, Paweł Pawlikowski, and many more acclaimed filmmakers.

For our first subscriber-exclusive Podcast, FC Editor Devika Girish gathered a star-studded group of critics and programmers to reflect on this year’s edition: Kong Rithdee, Deputy Director of the Thai Film Archive; Antoine Thirion, programmer for Cinéma du Réel and advisor for the New York Film Festival; and Dennis Lim, Artistic Director of the New York Film Festival and Film Comment Cannes correspondent. The group discussed their favorites at Cannes so far, as well as the selections polarizing critics; the prominence of international co-productions and historical dramas in the lineup; how the current political context in France—including media conglomeration, censorship, and the rise of the right wing—inflects the festival experience and selections; and much more. Movies discussed include: Emmanuel Marre’s A Man of His Time, Ryûsuke Hamaguchi’s All of a Sudden, Arthur Harari’s The Unknown, Sompot Chidgasornpongse’s 9 Temples to Heaven, Sandra Wollner’s Everytime, and more.

Thank you for subscribing to Film Comment, and we hope you enjoy the conversation!
