2025 Multi-Day Recap | Teaching American History

Teaching American History hosted a record number of multi-day seminars in 2025. We sent over 500 teachers to 31 historic sites across 22 different states this year alone!

In October, we hosted a weekend seminar in Dallas, Texas entitled “9/11: Causes and Consequences”. This seminar included a visit to the George W. Bush Presidential Center

“I loved attending my seminar! The perspectives from the other teachers allowed me to gain new insights to the material, which is something I will pass on to my students.”

-Carrie, VA Teacher.

“I really loved the readings and the discussions; they were very well balanced and engaging.  This is how I learn best, and I really enjoyed the interactions with the professor and the other educators.  Having lived through the event, I had some biases going into the readings.  This opened up my mind about this particular topic and gave me a new perspective as well as other ways to approach this topic with my students. This seminar energized me and reminded me why I love teaching so much…”

-Jennifer, FL Teacher

Another stand-out seminar in 2025 was in Birmingham, Alabama. The topic was “The New South: Industrialism and Race in the Postbellum South” with a tour of Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark.

“These multi-day seminars are so valuable to us to reinforce and improve our content knowledge. There is so little content knowledge professional development in the schools. It is also a nice little trip to take, which many of us do not get either. And for good history teachers, there is nothing better than coming to a place, meeting other teachers, and talking about history.”

– Brennan, ID Teacher.

“Enjoyed engaging with other historians and learning more about the New South. I got a deeper understanding of the concept and point of views of different figures during this time which I will take back to my classroom.”

– Ashley, GA Teacher

As we reflect on 2025 and move into 2026, TAH is extremely grateful for our growing teacher community and the interest in our programs.

How does the Application Process for our Multi Day Seminars Work?

Our application form asks for information like your school’s name, district, and type; the grade level and subjects you primarily teach; and a 1,000-character essay (not 1,000 words!) about why you are interested in the seminar. We also ask that applicants only apply to one seminar per quarter. You must note our application dates! If you did not apply, you will not be selected to attend or be added to the waitlist.

Our selection committee aims for a diversity of experience, geography, and content expertise in each cohort of participants with the intention to keep our discussion groups intimate and manageable. That is why we cap our attendance at 20 teachers per seminar. We also select a handful of applicants to be added to a waitlist for each seminar in the event of cancellations.

The application process for these multi-day programs is highly competitive, and with limited spaces available, we must turn away many teachers who would benefit from them. Please do not get discouraged and try again in the future! Teaching American History also offers one day seminars and webinars that do not require an application and are free to attend.
