Daniel Allan returns with Time Well Spent, a five-track EP out now via Breakaway. The release encapsulates the rising producer’s younger self – the high school kid from Kentucky who obsessed over off-kilter electronic sounds and would do anything for a chance on stage. The project features a stacked lineup of collaborators, including Louis The Child, Stresshead, DEEGAN, Port London, Arlo, fkblnde, and NJOMZA. It’s both a reflection on Allan’s journey and a showcase of the genre-bending sound he’s defined for himself.
The project wastes no time laying out its diversity. The lead single “Better With You” highlights Allan’s self-coined ‘Synth Garage’ style, while “Club Weapon” with Louis The Child and Stresshead delivers peak-time energy true to its name. “Start to Slip” with DEEGAN pulls from 2-Step and UKG to channel the haze of breaking free from a mental fog, while “Bet You Didn’t Need” blurs the lines between UKG bounce and 2016-era Future Bass with the help of Arlo and fkblnde. The journey closes with “Believe,” a track that balances introspection with dance floor weight.
More than just a collection of singles, Time Well Spent doubles as a mission statement for Allan. In his own words, the project is “about trying to connect more with my younger self” and a reminder that the creative process, writing, experimenting, and performing, is its own reward. That balance of personal storytelling and genre-spanning production makes Time Well Spent Allan’s most complete project to date, and one that solidifies him as a rising force on the dance music circuit.
