30 Rockets Launched from Lebanon at Northern Galilee Panhandle

On July 2, 2024, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that 30 rockets were launched from Lebanon, targeting the Northern Galilee Panhandle. The rocket barrage marks a significant escalation in the region, prompting immediate defensive measures from Israeli forces.

The IDF confirmed that the rockets were fired in a concentrated attack, activating air raid sirens across multiple towns and communities in the Northern Galilee region. The Iron Dome missile defense system successfully intercepted a majority of the rockets, preventing widespread damage and casualties. However, some rockets did manage to hit open areas, causing property damage and minor injuries.

“Approximately 30 rockets were launched from Lebanon into northern Israel. Our air defense systems intercepted most of the rockets, but we are assessing the situation and responding accordingly,” an IDF spokesperson stated. “We hold the Lebanese government responsible for any attacks emanating from its territory and will take all necessary actions to protect our citizens.”

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack and vowed a strong response to any aggression against Israel. “This unprovoked attack on our northern communities will not go unanswered. We will take all necessary steps to defend our nation and ensure the safety of our citizens,” Netanyahu declared.

Defense Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized the need for vigilance and readiness in light of the increased hostilities. “Our forces are on high alert and prepared to respond to any further threats. We will continue to act decisively to neutralize any attacks against Israel,” Gallant said.

The international community has expressed concern over the escalation and called for restraint from all parties involved. The United States reiterated its support for Israel’s right to self-defense while urging de-escalation. “We condemn the rocket attacks from Lebanon and support Israel’s right to defend itself. We also urge all parties to take steps to reduce tensions and avoid further violence,” a US State Department spokesperson said.

The United Nations also called for immediate efforts to prevent a further escalation of the conflict. “We are deeply concerned about the rising tensions and the potential for increased violence. It is crucial that all parties exercise maximum restraint and work towards a peaceful resolution,” said a UN representative.

The European Union echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of diplomatic efforts to address the underlying issues. “We urge all sides to refrain from actions that could exacerbate the situation. Dialogue and diplomatic engagement are essential to securing lasting peace and stability in the region,” an EU representative stated.

Residents of the Northern Galilee Panhandle have expressed fear and frustration over the continued rocket fire. “We live in constant fear of these attacks. It’s difficult to go about daily life when you don’t know when the next rocket will come,” said a resident of Kiryat Shmona.

As the situation remains volatile, the IDF continues to monitor the region closely and is prepared to take additional measures if necessary. The focus will be on preventing further escalation and ensuring the safety and security of Israeli citizens.
