Samsung unveiled an exclusive Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition at its Unpacked event in France. The new foldable is identical to the regular version on the inside, but it comes with a striking yellow paint job, some extra pre-loaded apps, and a flipsuit case.
The customized phone will be gifted to all athletes participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics as a testament to Samsung’s three-decade partnership with the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Samsung has been gifting a custom-made smartphone to all athletes since Rio 2016, but this time Samsung’s newest product will be gifted to athletes before the official market launch.
Stephanie Choi, EVP and Head of Marketing of Mobile eXperience Business at Samsung, said the phone will enhance athletes’ experiences at the Games in Paris “from creating meaningful connections to capturing lifelong memories.”
To make it easier for athletes to use their phones in Paris, each Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition has an eSIM with 100 GB 5G data, courtesy of Orange. The official Paris 2024 app, the Athlete 365 platform, which is essentially a closed social media environment for the athletes, and the Transport Accred app are also available.
Samsung Wallet will come with a pre-loaded in-app pass for free beverages in vending machines located throughout the Olympic and Paralympic village. There is also a complimentary public transport access card – those products come from the IOC partnership with Coca-Cola and IDFM, Paris’ public transport company.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition
Samsung will display the Galaxy Z Flip6 Olympic Edition at showcases across Paris. We might see it go for sale later without the athlete-only benefits, just like the company did with the custom-made Galaxy Z Flip3 in China for Beijing 2022 and the dedicated Galaxy S21 in Japan for Tokyo 2020.
Athletes participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics and Paralympics will get their phones starting July 18, a week before the Opening Ceremony that will take place at the Seine River. The parade will be broadcasted with Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphones through a dedicated 5G network.
